To meet the pent up demand for vehicles following World War II, Detroit Auto Manufacturers dusted off the dies of the 1941 models, fired up the production lines and rolled cars out across the county to peoples homes. In 1948, Oldsmobile's Futuramic post war re-design saw a wide-line body style and was held in high regard. Under the hood Oldsmobile introduced the new “Rocket” 88 OHV V-8 engine, which displaced 303 cid and developed 135 hp. Over the next three years, the Olds 88 grew heavier chrome bumpers, side trim was modified and chrome and stainless took hold as the 1950's progressed!
In 1952, The Oldsmobile Super 88 Rocket engine power was boosted to 160 hp, fifteen color options were offered with 16 two-tones and the dash was redesigned. Of the models available, the coupe was a favorite on the American roads for it's styling and powerplant performance. It was affectionately known as the Banker's Hotrod!
The 1952 Oldsmobile Super 88 Coupe presented at auction is an exceptional car with excellent history. Bought new in Pennsylvania, the car was very well maintained and the ownership was chronicled through handwritten notes. The original owner sold the car when he turned 92 in 2006. The second owner subjected the car to an extensive 5 year body on restoration to a very high example. Focus was paid to originality during the restoration. This car shows just as it would have been seen in the Oldsmobile Dealership Showroom. The factory plexiglass display hood was used in the showroom to highlight the Olds Rocket 88 Engine. The paint and all bright work looks like and is factory original along with the interior upholstery, dash, headliner, steering wheel and floor. In addition, the trunk fit and finish matches the high level of the rest of the car. This is an investment grade car and a fine addition to any discerning collection of beautiful cars.
