Beginning in the 1939 Model Year, GM made available to the American Automobile buyer a “middle” position car. The Oldsmobile was situated in the middle of GM's hierarchy of automobile brands. Chevrolet and Pontiac were the budget priced models, while Buick and Cadillac were the luxury brands. As the precursor to the Olds Dynamic 88, the car sought to provide seating for 6 by adding additional room inside and upgrading the floor mounted gearshift to a steering column installed transmission gear selector for the Hydramatic automatic transmission, which was introduced in the 1940 model.
The Oldsmobile Series 70 Sedan presented at auction is a fine, original example. The car was bought new in Billings, Montana and served it's owners in the dry, salt-less roads of the Harlowtown area. Owned by the same family for over 70 years, the car was acquired 7+ years ago by a collector in Cody Wyoming. The beautiful car features the following:
