First presented to market in 1981, and produced until market forces shut down manufacturing in 1982 (with some cars completed in 1983), approximately 9000 DMC cars were assembled for market. While sales of the gull-winged, rear engine, stainless steel clad cars did not meet expectations in the earlyl 80s, the DeLorean has grown in popularity among collectors and car enthusiasts the world over. The famed movie “Back to the Future” featured a time-traveling DeLorean, forever entrenching the car as an American Icon.
The DeLorean presented at auction is an early production car and was bought new by a gentleman in North Central Montana. His physical stature prevented him from enjoying the two seater coupe and he quickly sold it to a dealer in Malta, a small town in North Central, Montana. The car graced the showroom floor for years in this small town franchise dealership before being acquired in 2000 by a successful business man in Lewistown, MT, also in North Central, Montana.
The car was enjoyed sparingly in cruises around town and to car shows in the region. The car was always garaged and well maintained and was a personal favorite of the owner. Due to age and health, the car was parked in 2015 where it safely remained until the owner's recent passing. This DeLorean is presented for sale out of the gentleman's estate having been brought out of it's 7 year slumber.
This car has been consigned to the 10th Annual Montana Classic Car Auction hosted by the Classic Car Auction Group.
