1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE

VIN:  2W87K9N138689

The Pontiac Firebird is an American automobile built and produced by Pontiac from the 1967 to 2002 model years.  Designed as a pony car to compete with the Ford Mustang, it was introduced on February 23, 1967, five months after GM's Chevrolet division's platform-sharing Camaro.

The name "Firebird", previously used by GM for the General Motors Firebird in the 1950s and early 1960s concept cars, symbolizes youth, power, and beauty.  All of these are shared by the well-known supernatural phoenix featured in various regional narratives.  However, paralleling the name Pontiac, in this Native American iteration, the name "Firebird" additionally symbolizes both destruction and terror, two fitting descriptors for an American muscle car.

This beatiful car presented at auction features the following:

  • 403 ci Olds V8 Engine
  • Rebuilt BOP TH350 Transmission
  • 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
  • Complete New Interior
  • Y84 Special Edition
  • WS6 Performance Package
  • Original Build Sheet, PHS Documentation, Window Sticker
  • Air Conditioning
  • Power Steering/Power Windows/Cruise Control/Tilt Steering

Under current ownership since 2018, the car was acquired following a high-end repaint to the original Starlight Black code 19.  At the same time as the re-paint, new Gold Snowflake wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/T tires were installed.  Present with the car was the PHS documentation including the original order form/build sheet and window sticker.  These documents provide authenticity that this car is an original Y84 Special Edition that features the WS6 Performance Package.  The original receiving dealer was Alpine Motors in Brooklyn, NY.

To match the beauty and quality of the Starligh Black exterior, the current owner replaced the entire interior.  The existing interior was removed and hushmat was applied to the floors.  Legendary Interiors was the source for new carpet, Camel Tan leather upholstery, Headliner and Door Panels that were expertly installed.  A new aftermarket stereo and speakers were installed at the same time as was new rubber weather-stripping for the T-Tops.  Protective carrying cases were acquired for the t-tops that reside in the trunk of the car.  The car comes with a California Car Cover embroidered with “79 Trans Am”.

Mechanically the car has received several enhancements and upgrades since 2018.  The car has a brand new master brake cylinder and vacuum canister on the 4 wheel disc brake system that is part of the WS6 package.  In addition, all new brake lines and new front calipers and pads were installed.  A new Air Conditioning compressor was installed along with a new duct system and the seller states the A/C works perfectly.  The seller also states that all the features of the car are in proper working order currently with the exception of the cruise control.

To enhance the driving experience of this Trans Am, new QA1 coilover shocks were intalled on the front end.  The rear suspension features working air shocks.

For the drivetrain, the car retains the 403ci Olds engine original to the car.  It is reported by the seller that it runs great and uses no oil.  The original transmission failed in the spring of 2023 and was replaced with a rebuilt, correct, BOP(Buick/Olds/Pontiac) TH350 automatic transmission.  It is reported to pair well with the original 403ci engine.

It is estimated there were only 9800 Trans Am cars made with the Y84 package and the 403ci(L80) motor.  Paired with the WS6 package and the Starlight Black Code 19 color, this is a rare car perfect for the collector or as an investment.  Better yet, remove the T-tops and go for a long drive…perhaps across the country!

THIS VEHICLE TO BE COLLECTED FROM CUT BANK, MONTANA
