1966 Pontiac GTO

VIN:  242176K102212

Following discharge from the US Military, a Red with White interior 1966 Pontiac GTO Hardtop was bought and enjoyed in the ways that a young man who love cars will.  Years went by and family and life saw the GTO go by the wayside and eventually sold.  Upon retirement in the early 2000s, this same man, still young at heart and with a goal, set out to re-create his beloved 1966 Pontiac Gran Turismo Omologato.

A 1966 Pontiac was sourced and verified by PHS research and documentation to be a true 2 door hardtop GTO Coupe.  The car was then subjected to an extensive restoration over a 3 year period and under a watchful eye to make sure the car was done correctly to acurately represent the car from his post military service.

The car sourced, according to the PHS documents was equipped from the factory with a 389ci, 335HP and a 4 Speed Manual Transmission.   While the original drivetrain to the car was not present, a code YS 1966 389ci, 335HP engine was acquired and professionally rebuilt.  It is mated to a rebuilt 4 Speed Manual Transmission that transmits power to the rebuilt rear end.  Although the car is not “numbers matching”, period correct drive train components drive this car.  The view from under the hood and from under the car is a sight to behold!

PHS indicates the car came from the factory painted Burgundy and sporting a black interior.  However, fond memories from yesteryear dictated that the car would present in red livery with a white interior.  Close attention was paid to the body restoration and any repair was expertly performed.  The result is a stunning, lazer straight body with deep red paint that elicits praise wherever it goes.  Body lines are correct across the car and all chrome and brightwork is either new or professionally refurbished to show as new.  The trunk presents very well in keeping with the quality across the rest of the car.

The interior shows exceptionally well with Pontiac correct Parchment upholstery, door panels, and headliner, black carpet, console, dash and gauges.  The Parchment white presents a striking complement to the red exterior and the entire car outside, inside and underneath deserves a “Wow”.  The Odometer shows 446 miles and is believed to be the correct miles since the restoration was completed.

Extensive records and receipts record the level of restoration to the car as do pictures of the build.  PHS documentation is included in the records on the GTO.

As the calendar always turns from year to year, so comes time for beloved cars to pass on to the next owner.  The widow of the gentleman who built this car is making it available at auction.  This GTO is assured to delight the next curator of this Icon of the American Muscle Car era.
